Parayil Bio-Farms is an integrated, low-input farming system designed as a closed ecological loop where soil health, biodiversity, and long-term resilience guide every decision. The farm combines diversified perennial crops, livestock integration, and natural inputs while steadily reducing chemical dependence and advancing toward carbon-neutral, certified organic practices.
Alongside cultivation, the farm develops traceable value-added food products supported by research partnerships and farmer networks. Functioning as both a working farm and a learning model, Parayil Bio-Farms continues to evolve each season with the aim of passing the land forward healthier and more resilient.
Parayil Bio-Farms is an 11-acre working farm in Kerala shaped by generations of stewardship rather than planned design. Managed today by Hari, the fourth generation to cultivate this land, the farm reflects decades of labour that formed its bunds, water paths, and soil depth.
After years in engineering, Hari returned to find parts of the land degraded and irrigation failing. Restoration began through careful clearing, water repair, and patient observation. Over time, this work evolved into regenerative practice—guided by the belief that soil responds slowly, lessons endure, and the land is something to be cared for and passed forward responsibly.

Parayil Bio-Farms operates as a diversified plantation ecosystem with approximately 1,200 mixed-variety arecanut palms, 300 nutmeg trees, 200 cocoa plants, 1,500 pepper vines, alongside bananas and seasonal vegetables. The farm prioritises biodiversity over monoculture, strengthening resilience rather than maximising short-term yield. Irrigation constraints led to soil-first strategies supported by livestock reintegration and natural inputs such as dung, ash, and fish amino acids. Chemical fertiliser use has been reduced by nearly ninety percent, glyphosate has been fully eliminated, and free grazing now functions as natural weed control—allowing the farm to operate as a closed ecological loop.
Parayil BioFarm functions as a closed, low-input ecosystem using natural inputs, soil-focused irrigation, and livestock-based weed control, while eliminating herbicides and drastically reducing fertilisers through field-driven practices.
The farm adopts mixed, perennial cropping to strengthen resilience, combining spices, tree crops, and fodder systems, with planting decisions guided by trials and long-term horizons extending over two to three decades.
The farm is transitioning toward carbon-neutral, organic certification through soil carbon building, renewable low-input systems, verified monitoring, and zero-waste nutrient cycling—prioritising measurable environmental impact.
Parayil BioFarm extends into clean-label, value-added foods, supplying functional ingredients including its Collagen Honey Peanut Butter, while new honey and protein products evolve through research, grants, and farmer collaboration.

Farm ponds are being developed for fish rearing to optimise water resources, and educational farm visits are planned to share practical knowledge rather than offer recreational tourism. Together, these interconnected activities form a resilient, multi-stream model grounded in ecological and economic balance.
Parayil Bio-Farms develops clean, traceable value-added products that retain more economic value within the farm. Processing focuses on preserving ingredient integrity, reducing post-harvest losses, and strengthening farm viability through thoughtfully developed food products rooted in its own produce.
Honey integration supports pollination, biodiversity, and local beekeeper networks while aligning with the farm’s ecological approach. Rather than a standalone commodity, honey is treated as an indicator of ecosystem health and a connector between crops, forests, and rural livelihoods.
Farm ponds are being utilised for fish rearing to improve water productivity and nutrient cycling. Aquaculture is designed to complement irrigation, soil fertility, and on-farm resource efficiency, contributing to a balanced system rather than functioning as an isolated enterprise.
